Obituary
On March 3, 1920, the world was made better with the birth of Frances E. Holmes. Over 100 years later, November 8, 2020, Heaven opened it’s pearly gates to receive Sister Holmes into a blessed eternity.
Sister Holmes received Christ at a early age. This union with Christ would guide her as she walked through this pilgrim land for over 100 years. At an early age, she joined Mt. Olive MB Church where she served as church secretary for over 50 years. At the time of her passing, she was the oldest member of Mt. Olive. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Bunzie Holmes, Sr. This union would produce five children, three girls and two boys.
Sister Holmes graduated from Georgia Normal College now known as Albany State University in Albany, Ga. After graduation, she became one of the pioneers of education in Early County. Her service as an educator began in one on the 39 mostly church schools known as Bancroft. She also taught school in the churches of St. Maryland, Friendship, and Pleasant Hill. She would eventually move into the new Washington High and Elementary school where she served as an extraordinary educator. She was beloved by both students and staff.
