Reflections of Life

Ecclesiastes 3:1James Edward Gilbert, Sr. was born in Blakely, Ga. on February 3, 1948 to the “late” Turner Gilbert, Jr. and the “late” Minnie Lee Davis Gilbert.He graduated from Washington High School in 1967. Upon graduation, he enlisted into the United States Army. While in the Army, he received honors of High Recognition with a “Purple Heart”. He attended George C. Wallace Community College in Dothan, Ala. where he earned his degree in “Mechanics”. He participated in various activities and functions in Early County. He was employed with Ga. Pacific, he was a police officer, and a farmer. His hobby was fishing.

On Tuesday, April 23, 2019, he answered his final call and quickly entered into eternal rest.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister; Emory (Spark) Gilbert, Alfonzo gilbert, Fred Edward Gilbert, Marcus T. Johnson and Ruby Nell Gilbert.

He leaves to cherish, his very devoted wife, Thelma Jones Gilbert; three children, James Gilbert Jr. (Rosa), of San Antonio Texas, Bishop Vincent Gilbert (Belinda) of Albany , Ga.  and Rhonda Gilbert of Blakely, Ga.

Seven siblings; Pearline Gilbert, Betty Jo Gilbert, Patricia Gilbert, Pinkie Mae (Ollie) and Lulu Mae (Harry) all of Albany, Ga.; Christopher Johnson of Louisville, Kentucky, Jackie McDowell (Jeff) of  Canton, Ga.;Two devoted Cousins; Georgia Mae Gilbert of Albany, Ga. and Ralph Gilbert of North Carolina.; and a devoted uncle, Will Gilbert, Sr.

Brother and Sister in laws; Willie Pearl, Evangelist Pearl Sapp, Mc Arthur Jones Willie C. Jones (Gladys), Iris Jones all of Blakely, Ga.; Trudie Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; Dr. Mary Louise McCoy , Anne West(Johnny) of Miami, Fla.;  Johnny C. Jones of Albany, Ga.

Grandchildren:  Anthony, Rodolfo, Vincent Jr ., James III, Jeese, , Vintavious, Patria, Kelin, Justin, I’lam, Kevian, and Jelsyn;  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and some devoted friends;  Rhemus Caesar, The Creels, Rickey Gray, Mr. Isaiah, Mr. Jack, and Neal and Bobbie Jo.

Reflections of “My Daddy” by Rhonda Gilbert

Daddy, I love you, and I got you. “ Daddy”  as known by me,  “Rhonda’s  daddy” by many; Ooop, Uncle James, Daddy…Greatest of all times. You can spot “my daddy”fishing or parked at the corner store or in that “dusty truck”, but he was a great father to me, you see; my father is a Legend, the original one and the only GOAT. The Greatest of all times, yeah, the greatest of all times. Your twin.
