Mrs. Retha (Davis) Sparrow

Obituary

Retha Mae Davis Sparrow  was born to the late Eugene Davis and Alberta Lee Brown Dawson on April 5,1947 in Blakely, Georgia. She was educated in the Early County School system. Retha was baptized on November 24,1997 and remained a member the local Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She was a retired babysitter and housekeeper. “Tot” as she was affectionately known enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing and working with plants and flowers in her yard. Retha loved God, was devoted to her family, and believed that you should “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” She believed that everything was “in the Lord’s hand.” Retha demonstrated her love for family many times over the course of her life. She took care of her sick mother during her last days, became parent to her deceased eldest sister two youngest children, and caretaker for her oldest brother, John Allen, when he became an amputee. Years later, she became parent for the same deceased sister’s grand daughter. She truly used her God given gifts of caring and helping to provide love, care, and support to her family and others. On September 13, 2022, Retha Mae transitioned from this life to be with Christ in Paradise. She was preceded in death by son, James Davis, grandson Christopher Thomas Morgan, great grand daughter A’myra Smith great grandson Tyler Winns, bonus son/ nephew, Curtis Davis, and bonus daughter/niece Mary Davis; brothers: John Allen, Timothy, and Andrew Dawson; Sisters: Alvesta Davis, Elouise Dawson, Corene Rowell, and Gladys Johnson. She leaves to mourn five daughters: Joyce Davis Morgan (Daniel), Macon GA, Gloria Early (Dennis), Betty Johnson (Rodney), Joan Sparrow all of Blakely GA, and Kesha Brown Cox (Sam), Ft. Gaines GA; Her two sons: John and Willie Sparrow, Blakely, GA. One brother, Roy Dawson, Blakely GA. One bonus daughter/great niece, Tiffany Davis, Colquitt, GA. She was the grandmother of 14, great-grandmother of 40, and great great-grandmother of 6. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
